I recently chatted with Pamela Perret, head of corporate public relations for Nordstrom, about Nordstrom’s outlook on the latest trends for fall and winter. Here’s what’s new now:
ZG: Women want to make smart choices to spruce up their wardrobes. What should they invest in if they have $100, $500 or $1000 to spend?
PP: For under $100, you can get a great costume cuff bracelet that will instantly update your look. If you have $500 or $1000, consider investing in that statement handbag or shoe. This fall, it is all about boots and platforms. Knee-high boots and ankle booties in leather and suede are all over the runways. Platform pumps are another way to give your outfits a lift. Handbags, embellished with metal accents and chains, are also all the rage. One bag can completely change your look and will carry you through the winter.
ZG: What’s the silhouette this fall?
PP: The look is long and lean. Cozy cardigans are huge. Pair a longer cardigan with a slim jersey legging or pant to create that silhouette. Add some leather booties and you are ready to go.
ZG: What would you consider a staple for every woman’s wardrobe?
PP: Women should think about having a Denim Wardrobe for every occasion. You can have a variety of shapes from the skinny jean, to the looser boyfriend style, to the bootleg cut, to a more tailored fit. Different denim washes that range from blue, black to grey, add versatility to your outfits. Think of denim like trousers. Try tucking skinny jeans into knee-high boots. The look is casual and stylish at the same time.
ZG: What’s a great wardrobe for the weekend?
PP: Working along the same slim silhouette that I mentioned earlier, try a leather jacket or vest with your jeans or leggings. Consider it an investment piece that you will have for many seasons to come.
ZG: What about a knockout day to evening look?
PP: The draped dress is the go to piece this fall. It is easy, one-piece dressing, which is flattering for most body types. Instead of basic black, try one in a great color, such as red, plum, or cobalt blue. Pair it with opaque hosiery, knee-high boots, or statement platforms. A slim leather clutch and a simple necklace is all you need to complete your look.
ZG: Some women just don’t know where to start and get overwhelmed by all the choices out there. What do you suggest to get your wardrobe makeover going?
PP: In all of our stores, you can call up and schedule time with a personal stylist. The stylist will pull outfits or pieces for you to try on and have them ready for you when you come in. It’s a complimentary service for all our customers, and there is no spending requirement. You can also go onto www.nordstrom.com and sign up for the service online. Having a stylist can help you save time, and get just the right look for you.
ZG: Do your buyers select certain pieces with a specific age woman in mind?
PP: No, we do not buy for a specific age. It is more about style, than it is about age. We don’t assign our looks to an age group. Style is ageless. A woman of any age can look elegant, soft, and sophisticated if they choose the right silhouette for them. Experiment with the trends to find out what works with you to express your individuality.
Well, zGoddesses, there you have it in a nutshell. Keep your dating wardrobe, soft, feminine and polished. Choose wisely from the trends and you can update your look this fall with just few new items. Change is good and vital to keeping yourself up to date. When you are looking great, the confidence will exude. Remember – you create the goodness. Others will see that inner confidence, and will only be more attracted to you. Good luck and keep me posted!
